Second Shooting Victim Succumbs to Injuries in D.C. Crime Spree
In a recent unfortunate turn of events, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has reported the death of a second victim, linked to a crime spree that occurred on January 29th. This alarming incident which unfolded at the 900 block of K Street, NW, a bustling hub of activity in the heart of the capital, has now claimed the life of 56-year-old Michael Gill, a former official under the Trump administration.
Details of the Crime Spree
On that fateful Saturday, an unidentified suspect approached an occupied vehicle parked along K Street. The suspect brazenly entered the vehicle, shot the adult male driver, and fled the scene on foot. The gravely injured victim was immediately rushed to a local hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries on February 3rd.
Following this, the suspect tried to carjack a vehicle at the intersection of 5th and K Street, NE. However, the attempt was unsuccessful, enabling the victim to escape and report the incident to the police. Undeterred, the suspect then made his way to the 300 block of N Street, NE, a residential area known for its peaceful and friendly community. Here, he demanded keys from a man and woman by their car, shot the man, and made his escape in the victim’s car.
Aftermath and Suspect’s End
The male victim, later identified as 35-year-old Alberto Vasquez Jr., was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, he too lost his life to the injuries inflicted. The stolen vehicle was later found in Prince George’s County, MD. The suspect, not stopping at this, committed two additional carjackings in the same county.
On January 30th, while driving a carjacked vehicle on I-295 Northbound, the suspect fired at a MPD cruiser near Exit 1. Although a round hit the cruiser, the officer was luckily unharmed. The suspect then drove to the 7500 block of Annapolis Road in PG County, where he had a confrontation with the New Carrolton Police Department. This led to an officer-involved shooting that ultimately resulted in the death of the suspect.
