Tragic Road Accident Claims Life of Teenage Orphan

In a heartbreaking incident, a 16-year-old boy lost his life in a road accident after escaping from a shelter home in Krishna District. The boy, named Gopi, was a resident of the Care and Share Charitable Trust shelter in Buddavaram village.

Escape from the Shelter Home

Gopi, who had no family and had been living at the shelter for several years, left the home with two other boys, Suresh and Mahesh, on a Thursday. The trio then journeyed to Vijayawada, before heading to Jaggaiahpet in NTR District, where Gopi’s aunt lived.

The Heartbreaking Incident

As they were near Chillakallu village, a speeding car struck Gopi in a hit-and-run accident. Concerned locals swiftly transferred him to the Jaggaiahpet Area Government Hospital. However, due to the severity of his injuries, the doctors recommended he be moved to the Vijayawada Government General Hospital (GGH) for advanced treatment. Tragically, Gopi did not survive and passed away while undergoing treatment on the following Saturday.

Aftermath and Reaction

Upon receiving the tragic news, the warden of the Care and Share Charitable Trust, Swarna, informed Gopi’s uncle Naveen. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and welfare of children in shelter homes. Kesali Appa Rao, Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR), has called for an investigation into the alleged negligence by the shelter home management and the circumstances that led to Gopi’s death.

The incident underscores the urgent need for stricter safety measures and improved living conditions in shelter homes across the country. It also brings to light the extreme risks vulnerable children face when they feel compelled to leave these institutions. The hope is that Gopi’s tragic death will lead to changes that can prevent such heartbreaking incidents in the future..
