A tragic incident occurred near the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, where a 43-year-old cab driver was dragged and killed under his own car by two carjackers. The Delhi Police has revealed that the accused had planned to attack more car drivers at the airport but fled the city after they realized that the cab driver had died on National Highway 48.
According to the police, the victim, Bijender Shah, fell under his car because the accused pushed him in the middle of the road while he was wearing a seat belt. As he fell, he got stuck because of the seat belt and was later pushed to the ground. The accused were arrested the following night, identified as Mehraj Salmani, 33, and Asif Anwar, 24, from Meerut. They have been booked for murder and have a history of criminal cases against them, including theft and armed robbery.
The incident took place when the victim was approached by the men who posed as passengers and boarded his cab. They later pushed Shah out of his car, and he fell under the vehicle and was dragged for at least a kilometer near the airport. A video of the incident showed the accused speeding and zig-zagging on the road with Shah stuck under the wheels. His body was eventually dislodged from the car, causing severe head injuries that led to his immediate death.
The investigation revealed that the duo had booked Shah’s cab from Saket Select City Mall and told him they wanted to go to IGI Airport. They pushed him out of the car at a secluded stretch in Mahipalpur and sped towards the airport, ignoring his attempts to stop them.
The accused had planned to carjack other vehicles and rob people near the IGI Airport but fled to Meerut after the accident. They had previous involvement near the airport due to its isolated location. The police found several videos of the incident shot by passersby on NH 48, and the accused left Shah’s body after hearing others honking at them.
This tragic incident has left Shah’s wife and their five children devastated. The family hails from Bihar’s Motihari district. The Delhi Police is taking strict action against the accused, and investigations are ongoing to ensure justice for the victim and his family..
